Upcoming Performance - Spring To New Life

I'm excited to be part of a wonderful evening of music this coming Saturday April 30th at the Northlea United Church Syrian refugee fundraiser, Spring To New Life.  This concert features a fantastic line up of vocal and jazz musicians, and I will be accompanying the Leaside Singers on violin for one piece, as well as dusting of my conducting baton to direct the choir for two other selections.  There will be a silent action taking place before hand - so come on out listen to some good music and support a great cause!  Advance tickets available here.

New Year, New Look!

After several months of building and designing, I'm so excited to be able to share my updated website, and a brand new website for my teaching studio, Cavatina Violin Studio.  For the past two years Cavatina Violin Studio has been operating under the umbrella of my personal website.  It was becoming more and more apparent that I really needed to create a new and completely separate website for Cavatina.  As the Cavatina website took shape, I was able to dust off the shelves of my personal website and create a new look as well.  I'm so pleased with how both websites turned out...and even more excited to share them with everyone.  Head on over to the Cavatina Violin Studio website to take a look!

Cavatina Violin Studio

Note - this post was originally published in August of 2015, but due to an incompatibility with my website redesign, it was republished in January of 2016.

I am unbelievably excited to announce the opening of my very own studio space, Cavatina Violin Studio!  In a rather serendipitous turn of events, a small commercial office space came up for lease in the heart of Leaside, located in Midtown Toronto.  The space was already structurally set up to perfectly fit my needs, and to make things even better, within walking distance of my home.  In addition, I love all the unique, independent businesses that already reside in Leaside, and I feel incredibly proud to be opening my own business in the area.

I spent the entire summer sourcing all the design elements for my studio and in August, I was finally able to see it come together.  With help from my parents (who drove in from Wisconsin to give me a hand with painting, furniture assembly and lots of odd jobs), as well as some wonderful contractors from Cando Contracting, I was able to watch the image I had imagined for months take shape.  Thanks to my Mom's handy camera work the entire renovation is documented in the gallery below.  For more information about Cavatina Violin Studio, please visit cavatinaviolinstudio.com

Vesper Service

I recently had the opportunity to perform for Vesper Service at Erin Mills United Church in Oakville.  The music director and pianist at Erin Mills composed and arranged most of the music for the service, and it was fun to bring his creations to life for an enthusiastic audience!  Check out a few pictures from the performance below!

October Workshops and Master Class

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to travel to Wisconsin and give a short series of workshops and a master class at three of my alma maters; Webb Middle School, Reedsburg Area High School and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.  It was an extremely exciting and rewarding experience to work with so many wonderful and engaging students and to catch up with several of my former teachers.

My first stop was at Webb Middle School where I had the opportunity to workshop with the entire orchestra, which included students from grades 6-8.  Next I traveled to Reedsburg Area High School where I worked with the first and second violins in a sectional setting while the rest of the orchestra observed.  The public school district of Reedsburg has one of the only surviving string programs in the state, and it is an absolute joy to see, that despite the numerous budget cuts over the years, the program is still going strong.  The orchestra program provides a fantastic musical resource, not only to the students, but to the entire community, and I feel proud that many years ago I had the opportunity to sit in the very same place as the students I worked with.

The final stop on my tour was at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where I gave a master class for the violin studio of Klara Fenyo Bahcall.  As always, Klara's students played very well, and over the course of the hour long masterclass I was able to work with four people from her studio.

Below you can find pictures from all the masterclasses and workshops.  For security reasons, the faces of all minors have been blurred.
